I joined MTB Down South for their August inaugural tour, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. We had delicious home-prepared breakfasts and lunches made by the kindest locals, complete with homemade tortillas and salsas. The guides were fantastic and incredibly skilled. The trails were all beautiful and unique, and a number of them would have been difficult if not impossible to access without a knowledgeable local guide. There were a variety of trail and line options for various skill levels. Our lodging was centrally located and our hosts offered the best recommendations for experiencing some of Mexico City’s famous cuisine. Highly recommend joining MTB Down South if you’re looking to experience a side of Mexico City that not many get to see.

We joined the MTB Down South tour of Mexico City this August and it exceeded our expectations. Andres and Maria were professional the whole time and had all logistics organized from arriving to the airport to leaving at the end of the trip. Our accommodations were in Polanco, the nicest part of CDMX and our guides were top notch riders from Mexico. We were greeted every morning to a home made Mexican meal by Rosie and then taken in a truck or car to our riding destination for the day. These trails would be impossible to access like we did on your own so we were very grateful that we had the guidance from locals and our tour. It rained every afternoon like clockwork so we got up early to ride each day to try our best to avoid it. Some of the trails had amazing conditions and I could not believe how green and lush it was out there. They wanted us to feel as comfortable as possible the whole time, asking for input or what we thought before making a final decision. As a seasoned mountain biker who has gone on many trips like this one, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well this trip came out. I can't wait for the next one!

A great first experience with the MTB DS crew, Andres and Maria hosted this trip and made us feel comfortable, taken care of and most importantly that we had a good time. From the housing aspect I dont think it could have been better, the location they choose allowed us to get food nearby at anytime. Then the riding, the mountain biking they curated around Mexico City was amazing. Every trail network offered top notch unique trails that had some options for every level. From flowy trails, to tech chunk and trails with lots of jumps and features. The trails we rode also required a lot of local knowledge and logistics planning, many of these zones would be hard or impossible to ride without the MTBDS crew setting up the riding and shuttles for all of us. Highly recommend doing a trip with MTBDS if you want a full Mexico City experience with some city life, culture, and surrounding rural mountains.

I was on MTB Down South's fist tour in Mexico city. The trip truly exceeded my expectations! Andres and Maria (owners of MTBDS) went very far above and beyond to make the whole experience memorable, safe, and so much fun. We woke up each morning in our AirB+B to a home cooked breakfast and packed lunches for later in the day. All of the travel throughout the day was well coordinated. Our shuttle was always right there at the bottom of the mountain, ready to drive us back up. Our guides were very professional and talented riders and coaches. As far as the biking, Mexico's trail systems are no joke! They are very well build and extremely exciting advanced DH trails. There was not a dull moment the entire time. Coming from the US, this trip was one I could not have navigated myself. MTBDS provided a one of a kind experience that is really worth enjoying!

Frequently asked questions

Yes, we were surprised, too! However, the mountain ranges that surround the central valley where Mexico City is located make for some amazing riding. They’re accessible from the city, but that doesn’t mean it’s urban-riding. We will be visiting two National Parks adjacent to the city and driving to a couple of nearby purpose-built MTB parks. Check out our itinerary for details and our gallery so you can see the forests and mountains we´re talking about!

We strongly recommend you bring your own bike. However, if you need a rental, please let us know so we can help connect you with local shops.

Oaxaca offers some phenomenal riding, and it’s been getting a lot of attention lately. However, we think Mexico City is an undiscovered gem. We’ve ridden in both locations and think the level of riding is comparable, while Mexico City, being one of the world’s largest, most exciting cities in the world offers rich art, vibrant culture, world-class restaurants, and a bustling nightlife.  There are also plenty of direct flights from major U.S. cities, and as world travelers, we know how valuable that convenience can be. So why not check out both?

We would be happy to shred with you any time of the year. Please reach out to us at info@mtbdownsouth.com so we can plan accordingly.

The cooler season is from November- February, with an average daily high temperature of 72°F. The coldest month of the year in Mexico City is January, with an average low of 44°F and a high of 71°F. The grip remains, with some cooler rides, especially in the early mornings.

This itinerary is the highlight reel of all the amazing adventures we’ve been having over the last two years. Mexico City has captivated us with its diversity of natural and purpose-built trails, challenging technical terrain, and fast flow.  It offers some magic for every level and type of rider out there!

We are so excited to share it with the world. A lot of thought and planning has gone into deciding which trails and parks to feature, and we are certain you will love them as much as we do!

Join us for a trip of a lifetime!
